Abstract

Exclusive breast milk is the ideal source of nutrition because the composition is balanced naturally and is suitable for the growth and development of the baby. One thing that is unfortunate, namely the low knowledge of mothers, family and peoples about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for baby. Consequently, the exclusive breastfeeding program does not run optimally. The purpose of this study was to describe the knowledge of mothers about exclusive breastfeeding in infand age 0-6 month in Pinang Sebatang Barat Village Tualang District Siak Regency. This type of research is a descriptive tipe of research with cross sectional design. This data source comes from the result of surveys and interviews of mothers in Pinang Sebatang Barat Village Tualang District Siak Regency which was collected on 14 January-01 February 2019 during activities Community Nutrition Intervention Program (PIGM) students of nutrition study program DIII Health Politechnic of Riau. The sampling technic used is total sampling. Total of samples is 42 mothers who have babies age 7-12 months. Univariate data analysis to describe mother’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. The result of this study were mothers who had goog knowledge 29 people (69,05%) and who had sufficient knowledge 10 people (23,81%), while mothers who have less knowledge are only 3 people (7,14%). Babies who are given exclusive breast milk 17 babies (40,48%), while babies who are not given exclusive breast milk 25 babies (59,52%).
