Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is the condition with hemoglobin less than 11 gr/dL. General prevalence of anemia differs in different countries. In the developed world about 18% pregnant women have anemia but in developing countries about 56% of all pregnant woman. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related with the incidence of anemia in pregnancy in Sidomulyo RI community health center Pekanbaru. Risk factors examined included Ante Natal Care (ANC)frequence, iron tablet compliance and knowledge of pregnant women. Study design used analytic with crosssectional approach. The population of study were all of pregnant women who checked pregnancy to the SidomulyoRI community health centerwith total of 52 samples which used accidentalsampling. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test with alpha <0,05. The results showed the incidence of anemia in pregnancy was 75%, pregnant women with complete ANC (59,6%), not compliance iron tablet (61,5%) and not good knowledge (59,6%) . This research shows that there are not relationship between Ante Natal Care(ANC) frequence with anemia in pregnant women (0,253), there are relationship between iron tablet compliance(p = 0,021) and knowledge (p = 0.034) with anemia in pregnant women. For the Sidomulyo RI community health center expected to attention to iron tablet distribution, provide intervention to pregnant women who have anemia and increase knowledge through health promotion periodically
